Kurt S. Schulz, DVM, MS, DACVS
Orthopedic Surgery & Sports Medicine



Dr. Kurt Schulz performed his undergraduate work at Colgate University and completed his DVM at Cornell University in 1989.  After graduation, Dr. Schulz completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the University of Missouri.  Following his internship he served as a veterinarian in Morocco as a member of the United States Peace Corps. Upon returning to the United States he completed a three-year residency in small animal surgery combined with a Masters of Science in Biomechanics at the Virginia Tech. Dr. Schulz became a member of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) in 1995.

Dr. Schulz’s surgical training includes general, orthopedic, and neurosurgery. His research has focused on arthroscopy, elbow dysplasia, and joint replacement specifically total hip replacement. Dr Schulz was on the Faculty at the University of California School of Veterinary Medicine for 9 years. During that time he performed approximately 10 arthroscopy procedures and 2 total hip replacements each week.

Dr Schulz has over 50 peer-reviewed publications in veterinary orthopedics. He has co-authored three textbooks including Small Animal Arthroscopy, Small Animal Surgery, and the Pet Lovers Guide to Canine Joint Disease and Arthritis. Dr Schulz is a regularly invited national and international speaker on arthroscopy, joint replacement, elbow dysplasia, and clinical assessment in veterinary surgery. He has served on several committees for the American College of Veterinary Surgeons including the Examination Committee. He is currently chair of the Outcomes Measures Program which seeks to provide the highest standards for evaluation of veterinary orthopedic surgery.

Dr Schulz lives in New England with his wife Marielle and son Remy. When not getting Remy out of trouble, he tries to go mountain biking or skiing.
