Spine Center > What should I expect on my first visit to the neurologist?
Your pet's visit will start with a comprehensive review of his or her medical history, development and the progression of clinical signs. We will also want to understand your hopes and expectations for the visit so that we make sure all possible concerns are addressed. We take an integrative approach at the Spine Center and have the ability to immediately consult with an orthopedic specialist if indicated.
Once this review is completed, the neurologist will perform a thorough examination to identify the presence, location and severity of any neurologic problems. Based on the information gathered from the interview and examination, we will discuss the most likely conditions affecting your pet and advise you on the most appropriate diagnostic/therapeutic options. Depending on the differentials under consideration the further diagnostic workup may include:
• Bloodwork
• Radiographs (X-rays)
• MRI
• CT
• Myelography
• Cerebrospinal fluid analysis
• Electrodiagnostic testing (EMG, NCV, evoked potentials)
• Infectious disease testing
• Genetic testing
After we have the results from any diagnostic workup, a diagnosis will be rendered and treatment options presented.
