Orthopedic Surgery > Fracture Management

Fracture Management is the effective management of injured bones and tissues to foster quick restoration of the patient’s function.  Examples of Fracture Management techniques are listed below.

 - Interlocking nails- a pin is secured in position by interconnected screws which mend the bone to the nail to provide axial, bending and torsional stability.

 - External fixation –
is a method of immobilizing bones to allow a fracture to heal.  External fixation is accomplished by placing pins or screws into the bone on both sides of the fracture. The pins are then secured together outside the skin with clamps and rods.

 - Internal plate fixation-
is a method of realigning and stabilizing a fracture through the use of a plate and bone grafts surrounding the fractured area.
